The 2014-2015 Student Rabbi is Jonah Rank.

Jonah Rank

“Rabbi Jonah” is delighted to return to Congregation Sons of Israel. Having served our community in Amsterdam in the 2012-2013 academic year, Jonah has since gotten married to Dr. Raysh Weiss, a fellow rabbinical student at the Jewish Theological Seminary.

A composer of secular as well as Jewish music, Jonah taught for four summers at BIMA at Brandeis University,  a pluralistic Jewish high school program for music and arts. Just before entering rabbinical school, Jonah was proud to see Mahzor Lev Shalem go to print, after having served for four years as the secretary of the new High Holiday prayerbook, which we use today at Congregation Sons of Israel. Since 2010, Jonah has been involved with the creation of the upcoming Conservative Shabbat and Festivals prayerbook Siddur Lev Shalem. Jonah has previously served, among other communities, Congregation Beth Israel of Gulfport, Mississippi; Kesher Israel Congregation in West Chester, Pennsylvania; and the Women’s League Seminary Synagogue in New York, NY. This year, Jonah will serve as the rabbinic intern at United Synagogue of Hoboken in New Jersey. An alumnus of two co-ed yeshivah programs (the Conservative Yeshiva and Nishma), Jonah is looking forward to teaching modern Torah in Amsterdam and beyond.

Cantor Bruce Hyman – Bruce serves as the High Holiday cantor and often leads services on Shabbatot. He and his wife Natalie have two children, Shari and Scott.
